Sunset with birds in nearby Cold Pass

'Buccaneer'

sits in the community of Treasure Island on the beach side of Blue Water Highway just south of the San Luis Bridge in Brazoria County.

This site was chosen as a family retreat 10 years ago as a place to get away from the hussle of the big city. It is perfectly located for nature oriented activities like fishing, crabbing, birding, shelling, photography, kayaking, and simply relaxing.

Check out some of the activities below and use the links for more details. Use the 'BACK' arrow on your browser to return to this page.

Driving either, roughly 20 miles south of Galveston or 15 miles north of Surfside along Blue Water Highway, you will come to the beach side entrance of Treasure Island.

Turn in here to Bucaneer.

Within a hundred yards or so of the entrance to the beach side of Treasure Island is the local convenience store. The Bright Light is on the bay side of Blue Water Highway.

Fishing

I personally chose this location over 30 years ago because it offers all types of salt water fishing; surf fishing San Luis Pass, wading the flats in West Galveston or Christmas Bays, waiting for the trout & redfish to swim by in Cold Pass, or going offshore for snapper, ling, and king.

Visit Lake Jackson to view the gulf coast environment on a wetlands tour and an aquarium that displays living fish that you will be catching between the bays and deep offshore at

SeaCenter Texas

Birding

The Brazosport area, including (Brazoria • Clute • Freeport • Jones Creek • Lake Jackson • Oyster Creek • Quintana • Richwood • Surfside Beach) boasts an impressive number stops (24) on The Great Texas Coastal Birding Trail. Starting with site 71, San Luis Pass, all sites on the following loops are in this area; Bluewater Loop, Coastal Plains Loop, Brazoria Loop, and San Bernard Loop.

Shelling

The 15 miles of beach from Treasure Island to Surfside is excellent territory for shelling, particularly at low tide. Compare your finds with those displayed at the

There are abundant nature trails not far from Treasure Island which display the wonders of the rich coastal wetlands and forests.

Eating out

We recommend three restaurants on the south side of the San Luis Pass Bridge. All are in the city of Surfside, and all offer excellent fresh seafood.

Kitty's Purple Cow

Leaving Treasure Island going south, you will see the Purple Cow first on the left after entering Surfside.

Red Snapper Inn

Just a short distance from the Purple Cow you will see the Red Snapper Inn, also on the left.

Capt'n Ken's

You can reach Capt'n Ken's either by continuing past the stop light into Surfside and following the signs to the Intercoastal Waterway or by boat just south of the bridge.
